Summer and I waited out the hurricane, along with the rest of my family in Montgomery. It was everything the pictures showed, and more. Imagine being in your house, in the pitch black darkness, listening to the wind take down trees around you and not knowing where they were falling. After Ike went through, leaving a "battle zone" image behind, we were also left without electricity for almost a week.
We bailed on day 2, joining Chris in Corpus where he was working, and had a mini vacation at the beach. It was Summer's first time, she took her first two steps on the beach trying to get to the seagulls. The rest of the day she tried eating every shell and rock she could find, covered head to toe in sand. We named her the "Baby Sand Monster"! Then, crawling after Chris, she went headfirst into the ocean over and over, absolutely no fear. We were all a little sad to leave the beach and head back home.
